アーティストのmeidakeetは、少女時代やニューヨークでの暮らし、そして自身が飼っている2羽のインコを題材に、水彩画の作品を制作しています。日々の何気ない瞬間を写真におさめ、それらを気まぐれでありながら共感できるイラストへと変えることを楽しんでおり、特に鳥を描くことが多いです。絵を描いていないときは、カフェでスケッチの練習をしたり、日本の画集を眺めたり、自然の中にいるさまざまな鳥たちを愛でたりして過ごしています。

Artist meidakeet creates watercolor artworks about girlhood, life in New York City, and her two pet parakeets. She enjoys taking snapshots of daily life and transforming them into whimsical yet relatable illustrations–most often featuring birds. When she isn’t painting, you can find her practicing drawing at a coffee shop, admiring Japanese art books, and adoring all of the birds in nature.

Q:  Where are you based? どこに住んでいますか？

A: I live in New York City now.  New York City has a lot of inspirational art scenes and places to create art.  今、ニューヨークに住んでいます。都会には印象的な景色やアートを作れる場所がたくさんあります。

Q:  What supplies do you use? どんな材料を使いますか？

A: I use watercolors, especially Kuretake Gansai Tambi.  For lines, I use Copic Multiliner SP pen and Pentel Graphgear pencil and Uni NanoDia graphite lead.大体水彩の具を使います、特にKuretake Gansai Tambi。線画は、Copic Multiliner SP pen、Pentel Graphgear pencil、と Uni NanoDia graphite leadを使います。

Q:  Why do you paint so many birds? なぜ鳥さんをいっぱい描くのですか？

A: I have two pet budgies / parakeets.  I love the colors and personality of all birds.  They are intelligent, cute, and fun to paint. インコちゃんを2羽飼っています。全ての鳥さんの豊かな色や面白い性格が大好きです。賢くて、可愛くて、絵を描くのが楽しいです。

Q:  What languages do you speak? 何の言語ができますか？

A: I only speak English.  I grew up in the USA. アメリカで育って、英語だけできます。

Q:  Who are your favorite artists? 好きなアーティストは誰ですか？

A: My favorite artists are Little Thunder, Eisaku Konobouichi (窪之内英策), and Eguchi Hisashi (江口寿史).  There are many others, but I think about these three artists every time I paint and draw. 好きなアーティストといえば、Little Thunder、窪之内英策と江口寿史がすぐ思い浮かびます。他にもいっぱいいるけど、絵を描く時のほとんど、その三人について考えます。
